Iraq War Memorial 05/27/2004

On Thursday, May 27, we placed over 100 coffins in the Federal Plaza (Chicago IL) in remembrance of the lives of more than 800 U.S. soldiers and well over 10,000 Iraqis who have been killed since the beginning of the current Iraq war. For two hours, we read aloud the names of those who had died.

Each coffin represented the death of 100 individual persons. Eight coffins representing US military personnel were draped with American flags. One hundred coffins representing Iraqi citizens were draped in black.

Military personnel killed in action, from other countries, including 59 from Great Britain, 18 from Italy, 11 from Spain, 6 from the Ukraine, 6 from Bulgaria, 4 from Poland, and 2 from Thailand, as well as soldiers from El Salvador, the Netherlands, Demark, Estonia and other places.
