Good Friday Walk for Justice     2008 Prayer Guide Available  here!

gfThe Catholic community commemorates the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ with the Stations of the Cross. This is the 27th year, 8th Day Center has invited the Chicago community to join together in acknowledging the crucifixion in its many contemporary manifestations with a walk for justice. The social issues of our time are incorporated with the Stations of the Cross.

The Good Friday Walk for Justice is a public witness of solidarity with those today who continue to be condemned and burdened; who grieve and weep; who are tortured, stripped of dignity and executed. Our 2007 theme of RISE UP! It speaks to the belief that transformation comes in the doing, the resisting, the saying “No” to the dominating institutions that cause such pain and death. is to say “Yes” – yes, To RISE UP! is to be counted on to jion with aand support the many communities of resistance working toward the day wehn true justice with peace prevails.

Urban Plunge

up8th Day Center organizes an annual urban plunge. The Urban Plunge tries to show some systemic problems that plague urban communities as well as presenting creative solutions and progressive social movements. Although it is designed primarily for people in formation in religious congregations it is open to other interested participants.

Throughout the week the participants embarked on an immersion experience visiting organizations that dealt with issues such as affordable and public  housing, the prison system, health care, police brutality, predatory lending, racial profiling, and homelessness. They also spent time with communities and churches that respond to these issues.  Below are some photos from past Urban Plunges. The 2008 invitation, registration form and a sample of last years schedule. Send registrations by 1/15/08 please or call office for more information.
