Kathleen
Desautels, SP has represented her Community of the Sister of Providence
of St. Mary-of-the-Woods on the Staff since 1986.
While at 8th Day Kathleen focuses her energies on discovering
nonviolent alternatives to U.S. policies that are detrimental to
building up the human community and the environment. She works in
coalitions both on the local and national levels addressing such issues
as: U.S. military/economic policies, closing the SOA, women’s
struggles in church and society, and environmental rights. Her
work in these areas has provided opportunities for her to participate
in human rights monitoring groups traveling to Bolivia in 1980,
Nicaragua in 1984, Guatemala, El Salvador in the 1989, Iraq and
Palestine after the Gulf War in 1991, Haiti during the coup in 1994,
Beijing, China for the 4th World Conference on Women in 1995 and
Colombia, S.A. in 2001.
Kathleen has participated in and been a trainer for nonviolent direct
actions over the years. As a Prisoner of Conscience with School of the
Americas Watch, she spent six months in Greenville Federal Prison
beginning September, 2002
