Christy
Lytle, CSA
I entered
school for
the first time in the fall of 1946 and left in the fall of 1996.
During my fifty years in school I lived and learned in many
schools. St. Felicitas, St. Ambrose, Pritzer Grinker Day School,
Xavier Academy, City Colleges, Catholic Theological University and
DePaul University here in Chicago. Two Immaculate Conception
Schools and York High in Elmhurst. Marian College of Fond du Lac, St.
Peter Claver in Sheboygan and St. Mary's in Mayville, are all in
Wisconsin. St. Mary's in Altoona, St. Francis College in Loretto,
are in Pennsylvania. Sacred Heart School, Colby and Fort Hays
University are in Kansas. Maimi University in Oxford and Bowling
Green University are in Ohio. (I'll put the links into
these later.) This is written with an apology to any school I
might have skipped, especially those with extension classes in which I
participated like Brigham Young University, Kansas State University and
Webster College. Some write about having learned everything they need
to know in kindergarten, I think that is
the only class I
didn't attend yet.
As I watch schools on my personal list
closing their doors for good I recognize that there is more to these
institutions than the learning and relationships they represent.
When their mission can no longer attract those who can support their
mission, their vision, the support and the safety they represent, is
lost to those who come after us.
Now that I am out of school, I have
many new things to learn on the support staff of the 8th Day Center for
Justice. If you want to know how to make your computers mind you,
just ask. I enjoy software coaching and bookkeeping. You'll find
me at my desk most every day, just like when I was in school.
